Profile: Chris Newton

My interest in the mechanics of the body and its efficient functioning began at a very young age when I played Squash at a National level. Being one of just three junior squash players to be selected for fitness testing at the British Olympic Medical Testing Centre in Harrow also opened my eyes to biomechanics and encouraged me to develop my skills so that I could one day help other people attain a greater level of health and performance. My sporting interests now lie with adventure activities such as paragliding, climbing, mountain biking and kayaking.

Professional Background.

I originally trained as a Fitness Instructor in 1996 and quickly developed an interest in corrective exercise and injury prevention for everyday muscular pain and dysfunction. It was with this interest in mind that I trained in Advanced Sports Massage at the prestigious North London School of Sports Massage and as a Corrective High Performance Exercise Kinesiologist with the CHEK institute.

In 2006 I opened Muscle Therapies in West Hoathly, and in 2011 moved to a larger clinic in East Grinstead which allows me to combine manual therapies with exercise in my fully equipped treatment and rehabilitation clinic. In 2008 the North London School of Sports Massage invited me to join their specialist team of instructors and by 2010 I had been promoted up through the ranks to Senior Tutor. This role has given me the opportunity to be at the forefront of the advancement of Sport Massage, working to bring many other techniques into the therapist’s repertoire than massage alone.
